Paul Noulet's creations can be heard in prestigious ensembles throughout the world: London Philharmonic Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Les Siècles, Philharmoniker Hamburg, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Orchestre Symphonique Simón Bolívar (Venezuela), Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Chile…
A selection of musicians who have acquired an instrument from Paul Noulet:
Thibaut Maudry
Violonist, ‘Les siècles’
The violin is super homogeneous, with a very beautiful timbre in all areas of playing. Projection is excellent and very easy.
Delphine Millour
Violist, ‘Concert d'Astrée’
I always enjoy working with him and playing him every day, whatever the circumstances. It responds to me when I need it to, bends to my demands and gives me a lot through its warm, comforting sound, while at the same time knowing how to be brilliant when needed. It's an excellent travelling companion ;-)
Laurent Muller
Violist, ‘Les siècles’
I'm a huge fan, it's still one of the best things that's ever happened to me.
I had only just bought a viola when I tried out Paul's first copy of this beautiful 1616 recut tenor by the Amati brothers and, without really knowing how I was going to finance it, I didn't hesitate for a second to order another one from him.
The harmonic richness of the timbre of this instrument, which sounds more like a small cello than a large violin, immediately appealed to me; I had finally found ‘the ’ sound I'd always carried inside me.
Since 2009, this magnificent instrument has accompanied me in all keys and in all repertoires, from Lully to Ligeti, from 392 to 442, and there's no doubt that its incredible stability is the result of Paul's serious work, his perfect knowledge of Cremonese violin making and his careful choice of wood. Whatever the humidity, temperature, pitch or repertoire, the instrument responds 100%.
Since I've had the pleasure of playing it, it hasn't had a single dip ‘’ and hasn't caused me a single problem; in fact, any adjustment seems completely unnecessary, as it's still as radiant as it was in 2009, gradually gaining that little extra soul that comes with age.
Right from the start, it's been an instrument that seems to have no limits other than my own, and I wouldn't swap what is undoubtedly the instrument of my life for any other.
Saskia Lethiec
Violonist, soloist
Paul Noulet builds violins of very fine aesthetic workmanship and with a very timbred, projecting sound.
Matthieu Kasolter
Violonist, ‘Les siècles’
Having a violin built is not an easy process for a musician. It takes time and confidence to find the violin maker who will be able to realise your idea of sound.
I had the opportunity to try out many of Paul's violins before deciding to order one from him.
All his instruments are different but have a common sound texture.
They are very flexible, homogeneous in all registers and, above all, have a rich, complex and personal sound.
Paul involves the musician in all the essential processes of construction (choice of model, wood, varnish, etc.), which allows us to 'get it right', to refine and refine our idea of the instrument.
As a musician, it's a very rewarding adventure to follow the birth of your instrument and then to see it grow and develop over the years.
Paul has a very detailed knowledge of his instruments and he is unfailingly supportive when it comes to making adjustments over time.
I would highly recommend his instruments to any musician looking for the perfect companion.
Vincent Leutreau
Traditional violonist
Instruments of character, unique, inspiring, magnificent…
Experience.
The tools and the touch.
Exceptional woods.
Sumptuous varnishes.
Pushing open the door of Paul Noulet's workshop presents a huge risk.
That of experiencing the feeling that every musician dreams of experiencing
for his violin, viola or cello:
It's love at first sight.
Helen Paterson
Altiste, St Paul’s quartet, Philharmonia Orchestra (London)
Paul created a viola for me with not only a real, warm viola sound, but also with the response, clarity, and manageability of my violin. Thank you, Paul, for staying in touch, particularly in the early stages, and for your invaluable help with its progress.
Antonin Musset
Solo cello, Berne Symphony Orchestra
I've been lucky enough to play a cello built by Paul Noulet for over 10 years. It was love at first sight from the very first notes, and I continue to appreciate its rich sound and depth year after year. This instrument has continued to improve over time, while remaining remarkably stable, whatever the season.
I've also really enjoyed working with Paul on the instrument; it's a rare pleasure to be able to work with such an attentive and passionate luthier.
The sound of your violin is magical: it's not violin making, it's magic.
The emotions are still very strong, but little by little I'm convincing myself that it's for me.
What a gift! I don't know how I can ever thank you.
